TÜV SÜD has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Taiwan's Metals Industry Research & Development Center (MIRDC), CR Classification Society, Electronics Testing Center, Taiwan Electronic Research and Testing Center and Taiwan Institute of Economic Research. The MoU addresses collaboration between these bodies over research, testing and certification activities in connection with offshore wind farms in Taiwan. The partnership has the support of the Taiwanese government.

The MoU confirms the continuation and expansion of existing collaboration in the field of offshore wind energy. This August, TÜV SÜD brought a three-year training and technology project involving prototype measurements for wind turbines to a successful conclusion. During the programme, the experts from MIRDC had focused on the development and implementation of testing and certification processes. The project concluded with the accreditation of MIRDC by the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF).

"Establishment and expansion of offshore wind farms are key pillars of our strategy to reduce CO2 emissions and place our sustainable energy sources on a competitive international footing", explains Ming-Jong Liou, director general of the Taiwanese Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) at Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs. "Our partnership with TÜV SÜD is helping us to achieve our aim of rapidly building our own body of expertise and drive the expansion of Taiwan's offshore wind energy industry", adds Chia-Min Wei, Vice President Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC).

"The partnership with MIRDC is a win-win situation for both sides", stresses Ferdinand Neuwieser, managing director of TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH. "It is a privilege for us to accept this important task, and an honour to contribute our global experience in offshore wind energy."
