Global renewable energy developer, service provider and distributor, BayWa r.e. has completed the development and secured long-term investment to construct and operate a 14.4MW wind farm located in Målajord in the municipality of Växjö, Southern Sweden.
BayWa secured planning permission for the wind farm in 2017 after starting the development process three years earlier. The company drew on its 30 years of wind energy experience to optimise the project including on-site wind measurements and layout redesign to secure the project’s planning approval and ensure commercial success.
Katy Hogg, Global Director of Wind Projects at BayWa, commented: “With extensive experience through bringing more than 1,500MW of wind capacity online around the world, our technical experience, combined with our local expertise, meant we were the perfect partner to take this project through to construction and secure a long-term investor for the project sponsor. This is the second project for which we have advised Taaleri Energia.”
Construction will start in December 2019 and the wind farm is expected to be operational in the summer of 2021. With construction management being undertaken by BayWa, the project will also involve the decommissioning of an existing wind turbine before the new turbines can be installed.
Håkan Wallin, CEO of BayWa Scandinavia AB, added: “This was a complicated project and to get it permitted and ready to build, we solved permit issues, optimised the site’s value and negotiated various key stakeholder agreements. In parallel, we also identified and secured the long-term owner and investor on behalf of our former client and former project owner, Taaleri Energia, as well as the wind turbine supplier Nordex – a well-balanced match-making process.”
BayWa advised new owner Taaleri Energia in their contract with wind turbine manufacturer Nordex to supply three Nordex N149 turbines for the project.
The wind farm marks BayWa’s third successful Swedish development within the recent 12 months period, after it secured planning and construction of the 23.4MW Slageryd wind farm last year and the 94.6MW Lyngsåsa wind farm in August this year. The Slageryd project was also acquired by Taaleri Energia.

The Målajord wind farm is set to produce approximately 50 GWh of green electricity per year and an estimated reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of more than 6,000t of CO2 each year.
Once operational, BayWa r.e.’s experienced Swedish maintenance team, in partnership with the team at BayWa’s state-of-the-art central monitoring hub in Munich, Germany, will ensure the wind farm is run safely and at optimum efficiency. Ultimately ensuring the maximum amount of low carbon electricity is generated and the very best yield for Taaleri Energia.
