Setting sights on the future

30 June 2017

As the wind industry continues its unprecedented growth, over 8,000 participants will gather on 28–30 November for the WindEurope Conference and Exhibition in the Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The WindEurope Conference and Exhibition, which is organised in partnership between WindEurope and the Netherlands Wind Energy Association (NWEA), will build on the tremendous momentum achieved in recent years by wind power. Wind is now the fastest-growing energy source in the world, and has recently been a hotbed of innovation and unprecedented ambition. The Amsterdam conference and exhibition will be the ideal occasion for industry insiders to expand their knowledge base, make the contacts they need, and solidify an industry-wide vision for the future of this rapidly expanding sector.

Amsterdam is an ideal location for this international event. As wind stakes a claim to more of the globe’s energy mix, the historic land of windmills is currently blazing a trail in wind-power innovation. Onshore wind has developed to such an extent that 100% of Dutch trains now run on wind energy. At the same time, the Dutch offshore industry is undergoing a transition from oil and gas towards a more renewables-based energy supply. Knowledge gained over decades in areas such as deep sea drilling and offshore rig construction is now increasingly being harnessed for the construction of offshore wind farms. This has led to dramatic news stories such as the May 2017 opening of the Gemini wind park, the world’s secondlargest wind farm, off the northern coast of the Netherlands. This wind farm alone will provide 13% of the country’s electricity needs and will account for 25% of its wind power. With 3.4GW of installed capacity, the Netherlands is now firmly established as a key market for wind energy. It is also one of only seven member states to have a renewable target post-2020 – 16% by 2023, with 3.5GW offshore fully grid-connected.

Over the course of three days in November, the Dutch capital will become the epicentre for knowledge exchange, thought-leadership and debate in the wind energy sector. The conference will deliver insight from industry and the scientific community, offering delegates an agenda including technical, political and commercial content. There will be 35 conference sessions covering eight topics, keeping attendees up to speed with the latest innovations and insights relevant to every aspect of the wind sector, including market developments, supply chain, turbine technology and more.

In the meantime, the exhibition will give major players in the wind industry the chance to connect. Delegates will have the opportunity to benefit from an abundance of exclusive networking opportunities. Confirmed exhibitors already include leading industry players such as Siemens-Gamesa, Senvion, Vestas and Prysmian Group.

As the energy transition gathers pace and the wind industry takes its place at the heart of the clean energy mix, there has never been a more dynamic time to get involved in the wind sector. Join WindEurope, NWEA and the leaders of the wind industry in Amsterdam this November for the WindEurope Conference and Exhibition 2017.
