Ørsted to build offshore wind farm for New Jersey

25 July 2019

Danish company Ørsted has been selected to develop the first large-scale offshore project for the US state of New Jersey by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU). The 1,100GW wind farm, named Ocean Wind, will be developed off the coast of Atlantic City. Construction is expected to be complete by 2024, and the wind farm will power over 500,000 households.

“Today’s announcement firmly establishes a fast-growing global industry in New Jersey, which will create jobs and supply chain in the state,” commented   Thomas Brostrøm, CEO of Ørsted US Offshore Wind and president of Ørsted North America. “Ocean Wind will ensure that the state and its residents not only benefit from clean, renewable power, but that they reap the rewards of being an early mover at scale in the offshore wind industry as it grows in the US.”
