Ireland’s Energy Supply Board (ESB) has joined forces with Belgian offshore wind firm Parkwind to create two offshore developments. The Oriel project in the Irish Sea is projected to become active in the early 2020s and to provide energy to 280,000 homes. The second project will be located at Clogherhead, where ESB is licenced to commence site investigations.

“I am determined to make Ireland a leader in climate action,” said Ireland’s minister for Communications, Climate Action & Environment Richard Bruton TD. “Renewable energy is critical to this ambition. With a sea area almost 10 times the size of its landmass, Ireland has very significant offshore wind capacity and this partnership is a testament to our potential in this area.”
