Wind projects announced as Ukraine prioritises energy security

25 July 2014

VALOREM and WKN Windkraft Nord are to build new projects in the Odessa region of Ukraine.

Expected to be commissioned in 2019-2020, Valorem's project is estimated at EUR 250million; details of WKN's project are yet to be confirmed.

Against the backdrop of Ukraine's continuing political turbulence, the news came soon after Andriv Konechenkov, Chairman of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, stressed the importance of renewable energy in strengthening national security.

Speaking at a press conference on July 15, Konechenkov said: "At present, energy conservation and substitution of imported fossil fuel energy by domestic renewables should be a priority in Ukraine to strengthen its energy independence and national security."
