JHS Jungblut - The power of silence

While renowned for its sturdy, reliable and, above all, quiet brakes, JHS Jungblut's innovations ensure the mid-sized company is achieving well beyond its means. Managing director Ingo Jungblut and technical director Kai Kölker explain why the company's rebrand means the experts in noise reduction will soon stand out even more.

Some people in the industry might not have heard of JHS Jungblut yet, but the company's innovations set standards. How do you handle this balancing act?

Jungblut management: Up to now, we followed the strategy of letting our products speak for us. Their main characteristic is being noise-free, which, at first glance, might not match loud marketing, but we've found a creative solution to harmonise this balancing act and position ourselves anew in terms of communication. Our new phrase, 'the power of silence', and new tagline, 'hält', exactly communicate the character of our innovative, medium-sized company. Not necessarily loud, that's inappropriate, but distinct.

As a family business, we have specialised ourselves completely in the realisation of customer-specific solutions in the field of gliding and braking processes in wind turbines. The main priority here is to avoid noise, which is highly important in the azimuth area of the plant. Our system solutions set worldwide standards in this industry.

This is certainly a high expectation we set for ourselves, but you can be assured that we keep our promises. Precision, highly developed engineering and ultimate reliability - that is the way our customers know us, and that is the way we want to be seen and recognised in the broader area of our industry.

JHS brakes are renowned in the industry for being quiet. What is the secret behind them, and what is the key factor of their development?

The development of the brakes is based on our substantial experience and knowledge, independent from manufacturers. The diversity of applications under various conditions has inspired us to develop a stable, reliable and noise-free system that has proven itself worldwide in more than 30,000 wind turbines.

We maintain a number of special test stands on which all our products have to pass the hardest practice-oriented tests. Only when they overcome this hurdle are they ready for practical use. Of course, we can also help our clients who have problems with their brakes in operating turbines out in the field.

You are currently redesigning the whole image of your company and not doing so quietly. What goals are connected to this project?
Quiet is always relative. We believe our new appearance isn't blatant in any way; we rather communicate our core competencies in a serious and understandable kind of way. Essentially, it's all about adapting our corporate design to our modern technology. It's obvious that this doesn't work without words.

Do you belong to the so called 'hidden champions'?

We have never had any problems with becoming known, so, consequently, 'hidden' doesn't fit here. Up until now, this has never been the focus of our work. As already mentioned, our approach is technical, and that is why we are primarily focused on development and implementation.

Now, we're taking the next step and want to present ourselves to the public. We are breaking new ground, which is an exciting and creative process for us. But it also means that everything we communicate is measured to a greater extent.

Therefore, it was important for us not to change everything but to find a solution that, on the one hand, represents an organic and evolutionary development of our company profile, and, on the other, clearly defines and communicates our strengths, and the high expectations we set for ourselves.

What does 'hält' mean to you?

For us, it's a way of saying that we keep our promises in the same way as our brakes hold the turbines stable in the wind.

For more than ten years now, JHS Jungblut has designed, constructed, produced and distributed system elements for the implementation of gliding and braking processes in engineering.

The special core competence of this innovative family business is the realisation of customer-specific solutions for use in wind turbines. The main priority here is to avoid noise, which is highly important in the azimuth area of the wind turbine, as the prevention of noise plays a substantial role in the overall acceptance of wind energy.

With its fully developed system solutions, JHS Jungblut sets standards for the whole industry; the company's brakes are considered to be by far the quietest ones.

The development of the brakes is based on the substantial experience and knowledge - independent from manufacturers - that the company has gained over the years. Inspired by the variety of applications under various conditions, a stable, reliable and noise-free system platform has been developed that has proven itself worldwide in more than 30,000 turbines. On this basis, individual solutions are developed and realised in close collaboration with the customer.

JHS Jungblut always aims to exceed the customer's expectations in terms of performance and to provide a perfect service. This commitment is impressively demonstrated by operating a quality management system and the related, successful ISO certification.

Therefore, the company pays special attention to flexibility, reliability, feasibility, technical competence and exact implementation. For example, JHS Jungblut maintains a number of test stands on which all products have to pass the hardest, practice-orientated tests. Only when they overcome this hurdle are they ready for practical use. Of course, we can also help our clients that have problems with their brakes in running turbines out in the field. Due to this high competence and quality, JHS Jungblut products and solutions are approved worldwide and used by nearly all leading manufacturers of wind power plants.

The company aims to be an active partner as well as a problem solver for its customers. In this context, quality means meeting the customer's expectations in the best possible way. This philosophy is communicated in public under the motto 'hält'. This company keeps its promises - in the same way as brakes developed by JHS Jungblut hold turbines stable in the wind.

The company has offices in Salem (Baden-Württemberg), Dorsten (North Rhine-Westphalia), Beijing (China) and a representative office in New Delhi (India).
