An end to subsidies for offshore wind projects is being debated in the UK Parliament.
A private members’ bill submitted by the Conservative MP for Christchurch in Dorset, Christopher Chope, calls for "tax-payer funded payments in excess of the prevailing wholesale price" to be stopped for new schemes.
Other proposals in the document, which would require widespread cross-party support in order to pass into law, include suggested restrictions to the height, number, location and operation of turbines, banning new facilities within 24km of the coast and stipulating that those with a tip height exceeding 100m must be at least 32km from land.
Mr Chope’s constituency in the south-west of England is close to the proposed Navitus Bay offshore project, which has attracted much local opposition.
